How customers choose text updates

At customer checkout, customers enter their contact information and can choose order-related SMS updates. The SMS checkbox starts unchecked. Customers can leave it unchecked, omit a mobile number, and continue their purchase with email delivery.

If a customer selects SMS, a valid mobile number is required. Selecting “Continue to Square test payment” saves the consent choice, exact wording, version, phone number, and date with the checkout. The choice carries through to the paid order. SMS sending is pending activation.
